Billions actor Akili McDowell was charged with murder in connection with a shooting that took place on July 20 in Houston.
The 21-year-old actor is known for his roles in The Astronaut Wives Club, and the OWN series David Makes Man.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said on Facebook that the actor was arrested for the murder of Cesar Peralta.
Gonzalez declared that McDowell was detained and brought to the Harris County Jail.
Online records obtained by The New York Post reveal McDowell was first accused on August 1st on a theft charge and then charged with Murder in August. 2nd. The Post confirmed his bond for both claimed offenses is $400,210.
The incident occurred in the parking lot of an apartment building in Houston.
The ongoing investigation has not revealed how McDowell was charged or if he has entered a plea deal. It is also not known what his connection with the victim was or if he has an attorney.
David Makes Man, was one of the series that made McDowell famous. He played the lead, a talented teenager from a poor upbringing.
In a 2019 interview with Oprah, McDowell revealed that he was 15 when he got the role. He additionally mentioned that the show demonstrates that “you can be something. You don’t have to settle for what everybody may think you’re going to be. You can work to be better. And you can be better.”
