The Los Angeles Marathon will take place March 16 on a route stretching from Dodger Stadium to Century City. The race is expected to begin at 7 a.m., and will last for about six hours and 30 minutes until after the last runner crosses the start line.
Runners will follow a course which begins with a loop around Chinatown. From there, they will be directed through Echo park, along portions of Sunset Boulevard, and onto Hollywood Boulevard in Little Armenia. The route shifts back onto Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, and then mainly follows Santa Monica and San Vicente Boulevards into Brentwood, until doubling back to its finish at Avenue of the Stars. The full route can be found on the McCourt Foundationโs website.
Roads along the course will be either partially or fully closed on a rolling basis, starting at 3 a.m. Re-opening will also take place on a rolling basis, as portions of the path are cleared of runners.
Affected streets will be marked with โno parkingโ signs 72 hours prior to the start of the race. Vehicles are not permitted to cross the race. However, under- and over-passes will remain in use. The McCourt Foundation has published a map showing road closures and crossing points.
According to a statement from the L.A. Department of Transportation, โLADOT plans and implements traffic management plans for the L.A. Marathon alongside partner agencies to ensure the safety of all participants, spectators and people traveling in the vicinity of the race. Closures along the marathon route may cause delays and drivers are advised to plan ahead with extra travel time.โ
Car access may be limited for residences with homes along the route or whose residences can only be accessed via Sunset Boulevard. These individuals will need to walk to areas outside of the race route in order to access vehicular transportation.
โDetours are in place to ensure accessibility of all homes and residences. While no vehicles are allowed on the race route, sidewalks remain open for access to businesses and residential buildings,โ the statement continued.
Public transit routes along the course will be rerouted or cancelled. Riders can find specific information on the Metro alerts website and LADOT Transit Mobile App.
