WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden said he was not worried about 2024 election challenges after Republicans on Wednesday selected Representative Mike Johnson as speaker for the U.S. House of Representatives.
Johnson, a conservative with little leadership experience, authored an unsuccessful appeal by 126 House Republicans to get the Supreme Court to overturn election results in states that former Republican President Donald Trump had lost in the 2020 presidential election.
Asked if he was concerned about Johnson again attempting to overturn an election in 20204 if Biden wins reelection, Biden told reporters at the White House: "No."
Biden cited Republicans' roughly 60 failed lawsuits after his victory in the 2020 presidential election, adding: "I understand the Constitution."
