As soon as snow blankets historic Old Quebec City, this charming French Canadian destination transforms into a magical winter wonderland. From late November through March, Quebec City becomes one giant playground where you can embrace winter like a local. So bundle up and experience the best of the season in this snow globe brought to life.

Wandering the postcard-perfect streets of Old Quebec feels like stepping into a European Christmas village. Festive lights and decorations adorn the historic buildings, while scents of cinnamon and gingerbread waft from the German Christmas market. Visitors can also ring in the new year on bustling Grande Allée. Seeing the quaint architecture covered in snow is enchanting, like being inside a real-life snow globe.

North America's only ice hotel, the Hotel de Glace, offers another frosty experience. At -5°C, you can cozy up in the ice bar or spend the night on an icy bed. This hypnotic hotel of snow and ice creates a magical atmosphere.

Since 1955, Quebecers have celebrated winter at Carnaval de Québec. This festival warms hearts with beloved French Canadian traditions. Try caribou liquor, play the carnival trumpet, or wear the arrow sash. Watch daring racers in canoes cross the icy St. Lawrence River, a historic form of transportation. The colorful night parades capture Quebec's festive spirit. And no winter carnival is complete without meeting mascot Bonhomme Carnaval.

With over 300cm of snow annually, Quebec City locals relish the white stuff. Visitors should too by cross-country skiing downtown or through picturesque landscapes just outside the city. Glide along stunning skating rinks all over town. Snowshoe through snow-capped forests minutes from downtown. Try exhilarating dogsledding or snowmobiling through beautiful scenery. Afterwards, bond with new friends over hearty meals at the cozy chalet.

Bring out your inner child on thrilling snowtubing runs. At North America's largest winter playground, Village Vacances Valcartier, adrenaline-pumping slides and tubing await. Choose from one-person tubes, giant inner tubes or inflatable rafts for wild fun outdoors. For amazing views, toboggan down Dufferin Terrace next to the iconic Chateau Frontenac hotel.

Just beyond the city are four spectacular ski hills with runs overlooking the St. Lawrence. Night skiing illuminated slopes then hitting Quebec City's lively après ski scene makes for an unforgettable experience.

Winter also means getting cozy by the fire with some wine, enjoying leisurely meals with friends, and spending the day playing board games in wool socks. Top it off by alternating between hot and cold at a Nordic spa to relax after a full day of exploring Quebec City's winter magic.
