(CNN) โ€” Chrissy Metz documented what she says was a tough childhood in her memoir, โ€œThis Is Me.โ€

The โ€œThis Is Usโ€ star is opening up even more now and has talked about her experiences on โ€œThe Jamie Kern Lima Showโ€ podcast.

As a youngster, Metz said, she endured โ€œmental, physical, emotional abuseโ€ about her weight. She got emotional talking about โ€œThis Is Usโ€ creator, Dan Fogelman, because he purposely chose her for the role that she says changed her life.

โ€œWhat I discovered in therapy was that my dad, for whatever reason, wasnโ€™t able to choose me,โ€ she said during the podcast. โ€œSo I go after things, whether itโ€™s men or jobs, Iโ€™m literally in the business of rejection. Iโ€™m like โ€˜Oh, thatโ€™s comfortable for me. Oh great, great, great. Let me just pursue that.โ€™โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s what Iโ€™m used to,โ€ she added. โ€œItโ€™s normal for me. Itโ€™s not healthy.โ€

Her stepfather, whom she identifies in her book as โ€œTrigger,โ€ โ€œwould weigh me in the kitchen or threaten to lock the cupboards.โ€

The plus-sized star now looks back on it with wisdom.

โ€œWhy does my weight equate my worthiness?โ€ she said. โ€œAnd as a 12-year-old kid, itโ€™s like, how do you reconcile that in your mind?โ€

People magazine reported some of what she shared in her book.

โ€œWhen I was fourteen, Trigger began weighing me,โ€ Metz writes. โ€œHeโ€™d get the scale from the bathroom and clang it hard on the kitchen floor. โ€˜Well, get on the damn thing!โ€™ Trigger would yell. โ€˜This is what you need to know.โ€™โ€

She said during the podcast that experience โ€œimpacts everything.โ€

โ€œIt was hard because I felt like I was singled out by him,โ€ she said. โ€œHe didnโ€™t really treat my younger sisters the same way. And again, not feeling chosen, or feeling chosen for the wrong thing.โ€
