Adherents of the religion across the world — including about 1% of Angeleños — will mark the occasion with feasts, prayers, and celebrations. Eid al-Fitr, or the Festival of the Breaking of the Fast, occurs on the first of the Muslim month of Shawwal. Angels release former first-overall pick Mickey Moniak after arbitration

The Los Angeles Angels have elected to release outfielder Mickey Moniak from his contract. The 2016 first-overall draft pick won an arbitration hearing related to his salary, earlier this offseason. As a result, he was awarded a $2 million salary. Instead of keeping him on their payroll, the Angels opted to buy Moniak out of his contract. As a result, he will be awarded $484,000 in termination pay, representing one quarter of his annual salary. Moniak was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies as a high-schooler in 2016.
