(CNN) โ Patti LaBelle is very fond of her Tupperware.
The singer, who loves to cook (and sells her own line of โPatti Piesโ), shared an interesting tale on Sherri Shepherdโs daytime talk show.
LaBelle explained that back before Elton John was famous and he was going by his birth name, Reginald Dwight, he was playing piano for her with his band Bluesology when she performed in the UK. They had fun off stage as well, according to LaBelle.
โSo we played cards a lot, honey. I took all their pounds,โ she quipped. โAll their money. I had to feed him then because they didnโt have any pounds. No money to eat, right?โ
LaBelle said she would often have them over to her โflatโ (the UK equivalent of an apartment) with her bandmates Nona Hendryx, Sarah Dash and Cindy Birdsong. Sheโd cook for everyone, LaBelle recalled, and send home leftovers in her Tupperware.
โMy Tupperware is very important to me. I donโt give it outโฆand my shopping bags,โ LaBelle said. โSo, I gave them some food to take back home, and they never paid me back.โ
She said sheโs brought up the lack of Tupperware return to Elton John on a few occasions, telling him, โI want my durn Tupperware.โ
โHereโs the deal, he calls me about two years later,โ she said. โHe said, โPatti, please come to my show tonight.โ So I said โWho are you opening for?โ He said, โIโm Elton John now.โ I said, โAinโt that a witch.โ He made it before I did, right?โ
LaBelle collaborated with John on his 2005 album, โClassic Moments.โ They also performed together in Las Vegas, where the Tupperware thing came up again, she told Shepherd.
โHe took his rings off and put them on the piano,โ LaBelle recalled. โWhen we finished, I said, โElton thereโs your rings.โ He said, โThatโs your Tupperware.โโ
She said she still has the โbeautifulโ ring, which she treasures.
