(CNN) โ€” Miami-Dade police on Monday released body camera footage of officers detaining Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill in the hours before the wide receiver played in Sundayโ€™s opening game of the season.

CNN is reviewing the video of the four officers responding to a traffic stop. One shows the initial contact with an officer knocking on the driverโ€™s side window of Hillโ€™s sportscar after signaling for the wide receiver to pull over near the Dolphinsโ€™ stadium. Hill rolls down the window when the officer knocks and replies, โ€œHey, donโ€™t knock on my window like that.โ€

The officer asks Hill why he doesnโ€™t have a seatbelt on. Hill doesnโ€™t answer and repeatedly says, โ€œDonโ€™t knock on my window like that.โ€

The officer asks why Hill had his window up and says he had to knock to let Hill know he was there.

โ€œGive me my ticket, bro so I can go, Iโ€™m going to be late. Do what you got to do,โ€ Hill says before rolling up the window.

The officer tells him to keep his window down and knocks again, but Hill doesnโ€™t appear to respond. The officer knocks again and tells Hill to keep his window down. Hill rolls down his window slightly and responds, โ€œDonโ€™t tell me what to do.โ€

The officer threatens to make Hill get out of the car if he doesnโ€™t keep the window down, and then immediately after orders him out.

Another officer opens Hillโ€™s car door and starts to pull him out of the car, saying, โ€œGet out!โ€ while Hill responds, โ€œIโ€™m getting out.โ€

Two officers are seen pushing Hill to the ground while another officer stands over. Hill is heard saying โ€œIโ€™m getting arrestedโ€ multiple times, and the one officer physically restraining him says, โ€œWhen we tell you to do something, you do it. You understand? You understand? Not what you want, but what we tell you. Youโ€™re a little f**cking confused.โ€

Hill is heard saying, โ€œIโ€™m getting out, Iโ€™m getting out,โ€ and the same officer says, โ€œToo late.โ€

While Hill is sitting on the sidewalk, the officer who originally tapped on the window is told by another officer that Hill is โ€œthe Dolphinsโ€™ star player.โ€ After a discussion with police, Hill is given citations and allowed to leave.

Hill told โ€œThe Source with Kaitlan Collinsโ€ on Monday he was still shell-shocked by the encounter.

โ€œI was shocked. It was crazy because it all happened so fast. โ€ฆ I really couldnโ€™t like gather everything that was happening,โ€ he said. โ€œI wasnโ€™t moving fast because you know I got injuries. I got things that I go through. I play a physical sport. โ€ฆ I guess the officers โ€“ they felt like I wasnโ€™t doing it on their timing. But I was doing it. Iโ€™m still kind of shell-shocked from it.โ€

Hill said he just wanted to get his ticket and was afraid the stop would cause a scene when passersby recognized the NFL star.

Police released more than an hour-and-a-halfโ€™s worth of body camera footage from officers on Monday night, despite saying earlier in the day that the video would not be released until after an internal investigation was completed.

โ€œWhile standard protocol is to release body cam footage after the internal review has concluded, the available body cam footage โ€“ a combined 105 minutes 33 seconds โ€“ is being released the day following the incident to reinforce the Departmentโ€™s commitment to keeping the public informed,โ€ Director Stephanie V. Daniels of the police department said in a statement.

Agent: Officersโ€™ actions were uncalled for

Hillโ€™s agent called the Miami Dolphins starโ€™s detention โ€œheartbreaking, upsetting and uncalled forโ€ in an interview with CNN earlier on Monday as the local police union began to defend the officers involved.

Speaking to CNNโ€™s Sara Sidner, Drew Rosenhaus said he was โ€œin disbeliefโ€ about what took place after he was pulled over for a moving violation.

โ€œTyreek was just trying to get to work, trying to play a game, just trying to do his job,โ€ Rosenhaus said on โ€œCNN News Central.โ€ โ€œFor police officers to detain him, to put him on the ground like that, to put their knee on him, to hit him โ€“ itโ€™s just devastating.โ€

Daniels said on Sunday that an investigation has begun into the incident and that one of the officers involved is being placed on administrative duties. Police confirmed to CNN that a second Dolphins player, Calais Campbell, was also handcuffed when trying to discuss the situation with officers at the scene.

On Monday, the South Florida Police Benevolent Association defended the actions of the officers involved, highlighting that Hill was never placed under arrest.

โ€œUpon being stopped, Mr. Hill was not immediately cooperative with the officers on scene who, pursuant to policy and for their immediate safety, placed Mr. Hill in handcuffs,โ€ Steadman Stahl, the organizationโ€™s president, said in a statement to CNN.

โ€œMr. Hill, still uncooperative, refused to sit on the ground and was therefore redirected to the ground. Once the situation was sorted out within a few minutes, Mr. Hill was issued two traffic citations and was free to leave.

โ€œIn this case, while we will wait for the investigation to run its course, based on what we know, we stand with the actions of our officers but look forward to further open communication moving forward,โ€ Stahl added.

The Dolphins on Monday called the officersโ€™ conduct toward Hill and two other players who stopped at the scene overly aggressive and violent. They urged the police department to take action against the officers for their โ€œdespicable behavior.โ€

โ€œIt is both maddening and heartbreaking to watch the very people we trust to protect our community use such unnecessary force and hostility towards these players, yet it is also a reminder that not every situation like this ends in peace, as we are grateful this one did,โ€ team officials said.

Attorney says Hill considering legal action

โ€œI think the video contradicts everything they are saying,โ€ Julius B. Collins, an attorney for the wide receiver told CNN. Earlier in a written statement he called the officersโ€™ actions excessive, adding his team is exploring all legal remedies.

โ€œMr. Hill understands the inherently dangerous job that law enforcement is tasked with and understands that officer safety is important; however, at no point in time did Mr. Hill pose a threat to these officers,โ€ Collins said Monday. โ€œWe believe that this matter was escalated due to overzealous officers attempting to impose their authority on Mr. Hill because they were not pleased with how fast he complied with their request and that Mr. Hill did not roll down his window far enough to their liking.โ€

Collins said Hill, a five-time All-Pro who is in his third season with the Dolphins, is appreciative of his celebrity status but โ€œit is not lost upon him how so many others in similar situations have met a different fate. and how fortunate all parties involved were able to walk away from this matter.โ€

Hill scored an 80-yard touchdown in Miamiโ€™s 20-17 victory against the Jaguars, celebrating by putting his arms behind his back with his wrists together โ€“ perhaps alluding to being in handcuffs earlier Sunday.

Rosenhaus said he believed the celebration was a way of Hill โ€œcopingโ€ with the incident.

โ€œItโ€™s just embarrassing for images where youโ€™re in handcuffs and youโ€™re on the ground with police (having) their knee on you, pushing you and treating you like the criminal,โ€ he said. โ€œAbsolutely believe that celebration was his way of coping with something that was so upsetting.โ€

Rosenhaus added: โ€œTo Tyreekโ€™s credit, it was remarkable that he was able to compose himself. He was able to go and play the game, making a sensational play, an 80-yard touchdown to help the team win, come from behind. His performance was epic.

โ€œBut what happened before the game was disgraceful, unacceptable and cannot happen in this society. Who would have thought after George Floyd that we would still see people treated like this unfairly and unnecessarily?โ€

Hill said after Sundayโ€™s game that he was still confused by his pregame encounter with police.

โ€œI wasnโ€™t disrespectful because my mom didnโ€™t raise me that way, didnโ€™t cuss, didnโ€™t do none of that. Like I said, Iโ€™m still trying to figure it out,โ€ Hill said at his postgame press conference.

Rosenhaus told CNN Monday that there is โ€œno questionโ€ that there will be โ€œramificationsโ€ to come out of the incident involving Hill.

โ€œIf Tyreek wasnโ€™t a world-class athlete and in incredible shape, who knows how this could have impacted him,โ€ he said. โ€œHe was sore. He was hurting. He was physically and mentally distraught โ€“ something where weโ€™re seeking answers โ€“ and we will pursue this to the fullest extent of the law.โ€

Campbell describes tense detention scene

On Monday, Campbell recalled how he arrived at the scene of his teammateโ€™s detention and attempted to diffuse the situation.

Speaking on ESPN, the 17-year NFL veteran said he got out of his car with his hands up and approached the police officers, saying, โ€œIโ€™m a friend of his (Hill). I donโ€™t know whatโ€™s going on here, but I think the situation is definitely unnecessary.โ€

Campbell said he was told to leave, with an officer threatening to tow his car if he didnโ€™t go away.

โ€œI told him I will stand where you want me to stand. You tell me how far I need to back up, and Iโ€™ll back up, but Iโ€™m not leaving the scene,โ€ Campbell recounted. โ€œThis is my friend here. Iโ€™m here to support him. Iโ€™m not leaving.โ€

Body camera footage released Monday shows Campbell approaching police with his hands up, asking what is going on. โ€œI just want to know whatโ€™s going on,โ€ he says. The officer responds โ€œItโ€™s not your business. Itโ€™s not your business, keep going back.โ€ The officer tells him to back up behind a car and Campbell moves.

After not vacating, Campbell, in his first season with the Dolphins, said the officer told him he was under arrest and put Campbell in handcuffs. Body camera footage shows him being handcuffed.

The defensive tackle said Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith was also at the scene as Hill pleaded with both teammates: โ€œDonโ€™t leave me. Donโ€™t leave me.โ€

Campbell told ESPN he was thankful he was there to support Hill.

โ€œThese situations can escalate quickly. We see it so many times in America where these things go completely bad. This is a big opportunity for us to use this platform to combat police brutality that happens. This situation could have been a whole lot worse had we not been there.โ€

After being released by police, Campbell said Hill was โ€œfrustrated and flusteredโ€ and told others he wouldnโ€™t play against the Jaguars.

The Dolphins are back in action on Thursday when they face their divisional rivals, the Buffalo Bills, at Hard Rock Stadium.
