A correction officer sentenced to prison for attempting to smuggle drugs into New Haven Correctional Center received his punishment. According to the State's Attorney's Office, Nicholas Kosa, 29, of Cheshire, was sentenced to five years in prison, suspended after three years served, as well as three years of probation.
Kosa pleaded guilty on June 5 to sale or possession with intent to sell a controlled substance. After receiving information about a potential security breach, the Department of Correction reported they uncovered the drug smuggling scheme. Upon searching Kosa as he arrived for work, officials discovered narcotics in his possession.
Court records reveal Kosa admitted to transporting Suboxone and cocaine into the facility. Kosa concealed the drugs in his duffel bag, intending to deliver them to an inmate without expecting compensation. Authorities found 31 Suboxone strips and 3.7 grams of cocaine hidden in a blue latex glove among Kosa's belongings.
Suboxone is a medicine used to treat narcotic drug dependence.
Kosa was employed on Feb. 10, 2023, but he lost his job in August of the same year after the incident.
