Nahal Garakani - LA Post

For travelers heading to Los Angeles, the city offers a diverse range of hotel options tailored to every type of guest. From luxury lovers to sports enthusiasts, and those seeking a beachside retreat, each property provides unique experiences that capture the essence of LA.

Culture vultures should definitely consider the Conrad Los Angeles over in Bunker Hill. It's seriously impressive. Frank Gehry, the architect behind this 305-room stunner, really outdid himself. It's peak SoCal luxury. You can gawk at the city, treat yourself to some spa time, and lounge by a pool that feels like it's touching the sky. José Andrés is running the food show here. His place, San Laurel, mixes up some killer cocktails. If you dig artsy stuff, you're going to love it here. All the cool museums and galleries are just a hop, skip, and jump away.

Sports fans and party animals will feel right at home at the JW Marriott LA Live. It's smack in the middle of this huge playground downtown. Fancy catching a Lakers game or exploring music history? It's all within walking distance. Seriously, everything's right on your doorstep. The rooms are super nice, there's a great pool on the roof, and you can even use the fancy spa next door. Sweet deal.

Should you own substantial funds and have an affinity for high-end brands, the Beverly Wilshire is beckoning you. Even though this classic has been around since 1928, it still has that timeless Hollywood charm. Step beyond the front door, and you'll find yourself in a retail haven. Remember Pretty Woman? That's this place. Swanky rooms and a taste of the celeb life await.

Do you want to see LA from way up high? For jaw-dropping views, nothing tops the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown. This bad boy towers over everything else out west; every room feels like you're on top of the world. Even checking in is wild - you do it on the 70th floor! You can swim on the seventh floor or hit the gym in the clouds. Imagine lifting weights while looking out over the whole city.

Listen up, all you foodies. The Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills has a restaurant that'll make your taste buds do backflips. Head up a dozen floors, and you're in for a treat - killer views and grub that's out of this world. The rooms are top-notch, the service is on point, and everything's cutting edge.

Has a visit to the Sunset Strip been at the top of your itinerary? The Pendry West Hollywood's got you covered. It's fancy but not stuffy and right by all the famous spots. Chill by the rooftop pool, grab dinner at Wolfgang Puck's place, and check out the art - including this crazy Swarovski crystal tree in the lobby.

For a classy beach vacay, Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica is the bomb. There are ocean-view rooms, great food, a spa, and the beach. What more could you want?

History nerds, you'll dig the Hotel Figueroa in Downtown LA. This place has been around since 1926, originally a safe spot for women traveling solo. They're still all about girl power, with cool art shows featuring women artists. The whole vibe is Moroccan-inspired, with lots of greenery. It's pretty unique.

If you want to zip around LA on public transit, crash at The Shay in Culver City. You can easily tour the city because it's close to the metro. There are dining options, a game room for hanging out, and a rooftop pool.

Party animals, the W Hollywood is your jam. Those rooftop pool parties are insane. Right on Hollywood Boulevard, you're surrounded by famous spots, and the rooms are super stylish. Weekends at the WET Deck pool are wild - DJs, awesome views, the works.

Believe it or not, we've barely touched on all the amazing hotels in LA. Whatever brings you to town, you'll find somewhere that feels just right and fits your budget. LA's going to treat you right.

Homicides decline over 25%, according to mayor's office

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announced Tuesday a decline of more than one-fourth in the number of homicides and people shot since she took office two years ago. Statistics released by the L.A. Police Department show murders are down 28.1% and 26.2% fewer people have been shot. Gang-related homicides were a particularly bright spot, down by 50% since 2022. City officials attributed the decline in part to programs like Summer Night Lights and Fall Friday Nights, which aim to create supervised spaces for young people at times when gang activities have traditionally been high. Franklin Fire expands to 2,700 acres amid ongoing response efforts

The Franklin Fire in Malibu Canyon grew to more than 2,700 acres as of Tuesday near Pepperdine University.  The fire – driven by Santa Ana winds – started Monday and was first reported at 11 p.m. It threatens about 2,000 structures, forcing mandatory evacuations orders to be handed out. However, only a “minimal” number of homes have been destroyed, and no injuries have been reported.  There’s a high volume of dry brush, which contributed to the rapidly growing fire. The fire began in the midst of a “particularly dangerous situation red flag warning” issued by the National Weather Service. Los Angeles
