A father in California’s Central Valley was taken into custody over accusations that for months he allowed his 16-year-old daughter to sell nude photos online, capping a three-month investigation by the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office. To protect the minor's identity, officials chose not to identify the guy who was detained on November 15th. He faces accusations including child abuse, contributing to a kid's delinquency, and criminal sex trafficking.

The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office had not originally targeted the father when its investigation began in August, instead focusing on the “very well known online presence” the teenager maintained across numerous social media platforms. Over the course of the inquiry detectives determined the 16-year-old had sold nude photographs of herself for a profit of around $40,000.

As detectives continued gathering information, they uncovered that the girl’s father was fully aware of her activities on these platforms and had allegedly obtained a share of her earnings from the illicit photo sales. This discovery led to the man’s arrest on November 15th after the months-long investigation.

Details remain slim concerning the transactions facilitated between the teenage girl and buyers of her nude photographs, which netted around $40,000 in profits according to detectives. The specifics of which platforms hosted the sale of these illicit materials and over what duration they were advertised are still being established. Investigators continue working to uncover whether that substantial six-figure profit originated from numerous smaller sales compiled over many months or through concentrated high-value purchases of the underage photos.

At this stage the specifics on the transactions remain unclear, including the exact platforms used and duration of the operation, though detectives confirmed uncovering evidence of profit reaching around $40,000. Investigators are still working to determine whether that money stemmed from numerous small sales over time or concentrated high-value purchases.

While the father allegedly enabled his underage daughter's actions and shared directly in the proceeds, authorities reiterated that in cases involving minors such dynamics still legally constitute sex trafficking and sexual exploitation. The emphasis lies on the minor's inability to consent and the adult's position of influence regardless of seeming willingness.

The case comes amid heightened attention on child sex trafficking and abuse enabled through online platforms and exchanges. Just this summer a nationwide sting by law enforcement agencies led to over 140 arrests for charges including child solicitation, distribution of child pornography, sexual abuse, and human trafficking.

The pervasiveness of social media and e-commerce tools has created new avenues for this longstanding criminal activity to persist, with predators often targeting minors through direct messaging or illusion of safe anonymous transactions. Advocates emphasize that while sites themselves may facilitate interaction, legal culpability ultimately falls upon the adults who abuse these networks for sexual exploitation.

As for legal consequences, the charges of sex trafficking and producing child sexual abuse imagery can each carry potential 10+ year prison sentences under California state law if substantiated. The sheriff's office indicated its investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to establish the full sequence and scope of the photo sales operation. For now the arrested father faces an uphill legal battle defending claims he enabled and monetized the sexual exploitation of a minor in his care.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announced Tuesday a decline of more than one-fourth in the number of homicides and people shot since she took office two years ago. Statistics released by the L.A. Police Department show murders are down 28.1% and 26.2% fewer people have been shot. Gang-related homicides were a particularly bright spot, down by 50% since 2022. City officials attributed the decline in part to programs like Summer Night Lights and Fall Friday Nights, which aim to create supervised spaces for young people at times when gang activities have traditionally been high. Over 316,000 people received food, programming,

Franklin Fire expands to 2,700 acres amid ongoing response efforts

The Franklin Fire in Malibu Canyon grew to more than 2,700 acres as of Tuesday near Pepperdine University.  The fire – driven by Santa Ana winds – started Monday and was first reported at 11 p.m. It threatens about 2,000 structures, forcing mandatory evacuations orders to be handed out. However, only a “minimal” number of homes have been destroyed, and no injuries have been reported.  There’s a high volume of dry brush, which contributed to the rapidly growing fire. The fire began in the midst of a “particularly dangerous situation red flag warning” issued by the National Weather Service. Los Angeles
