Parents nationwide are being encouraged to talk to their teens about safe driving habits and set positive examples as National Teen Driver Safety Week kicks off.

This yearly campaign seeks to lower the incidence of accidents among young drivers by highlighting the importance of safe driving habits. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) points out that car crashes are a major cause of fatalities among teenagers in the U.S. During this week, parents are encouraged to discuss essential safety topics with their teen drivers, including staying focused, buckling up, and avoiding driving under any influence.

The NHTSA recommends that parents make these discussions a regular occurrence, stressing that they can greatly influence their teen's driving habits. Ensuring that teens are aware of the dangers that come with driving is a key part of making our roads safer. Experts emphasize that how parents drive strongly affects the driving habits of their teens.

A survey from the American Automobile Association (AAA) shows that when parents consistently practice safe driving, their teens are more likely to follow suit. By following good driving practices like adhering to speed limits and keeping their attention on the road, parents can effectively reinforce their advice to their teens. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) notes that over 2,400 teens in the United States lose their lives to car crashes each year.

The focus on teen driver safety comes amid concerning statistics. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that over 2,400 teens in the United States lose their lives to car crashes each year.
