LOS ANGELES — Gabriel Olds, an actor known for his role in "NCIS: Los Angeles," was arrested earlier this month by the Los Angeles Police Department on multiple sex crime charges. The 52-year-old actor is accused of attacking at least three women he allegedly met through dating sites, according to police statements.
According to the Independent UK, Olds is currently in custody with bail set at $3.5 million after being arrested on seven sex assault charges, the Independent UK reported. Authorities say the actor allegedly used his television fame and Yale education to gain the trust of his victims before turning violent.
"Each victim reported that Olds lured them into a false sense of security during their initial encounters, then turned violent without seeking their consent," the LAPD said in a statement, per the Independent UK.
Detective Brent Hopkins of the LAPD elaborated: "We heard the same story again and again. Olds started off charming, but then used brutal violence to carry out these rapes."
The alleged attacks spanned several states, according to police reports. Investigators believe there may be more victims and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
Olds, who played Spencer Allen in "NCIS: Los Angeles," has also appeared in shows such as "Criminal Minds" and "The Mentalist." He portrayed a young Pat Robertson in the Oscar-winning Tammy Faye biopic in 2021.
The case has reignited discussions about the potential dangers of dating apps. Sarah Johnson, who runs a local group combating sexual assault, advised caution: "Watch your back on those apps. Meet somewhere public and tell your friends where you're going."
This case is the latest in a series of allegations against Hollywood figures in the wake of the #MeToo movement. Detective Hopkins noted that some victims remained silent for years before speaking out.
The LAPD is collaborating with other police departments where Olds may have committed offenses. They have established a dedicated hotline for this case and encourage anyone with relevant information to contact their Special Assault Section.
If convicted, Olds could face significant prison time, potentially including a life sentence, depending on the specific charges and circumstances. Representatives for Mr. Olds have not commented on the allegations, and it is unclear.
The LAPD reminds the public that he is presumed innocent until proven guilty, regardless of the allegations against him.
