The Eastern Sierra Spirit & Ale Trail, a new attraction spanning 90 miles from Bishop to Bridgeport, offers visitors a curated experience of local breweries and distilleries. This self-guided tour, developed by the Eastern Sierra Brewers Alliance, encompasses eight establishments across Inyo and Mono counties, showcasing the region's craft beverage industry against the backdrop of the Sierra Nevada mountains.
Visitors can initiate their journey from various points, with Bishop equidistant from Los Angeles and San Francisco airports, and Bridgeport more accessible from Reno or Oakland. Regional airports in Mammoth and Bishop provide direct access options.
The trail provides participants with a map available at each location or digitally, encouraging exploration of all eight venues. Upon completion, visitors receive an commemorative iron-on patch.
Each stop along the trail offers unique specialties:
- In Bishop, Owens Valley Distilling Company produces vodka, whiskey, and moonshine, while Mountain Rambler Brewery specializes in European-style beers.
- Mammoth Lakes features several establishments, including Devils Creek Distillery, known for barrel-aged spirits, Distant Brewing, offering a variety of ales and ciders, and Mammoth Brewing Company, a longstanding presence in the local craft beer scene since 1995.
- June Lake Brewing, located off Highway 395, emphasizes community engagement and hop-forward brews.
- The trail concludes in Bridgeport at Big Meadow Brewing, situated near the historic Bodie ghost town.
Given limited public transportation options, designated drivers are recommended for safety. In addition to the beverage offerings, the trail provides scenic views of the Sierra Nevada, including landmarks such as Mt. Whitney and Mono Lake.
