An Ohio man is facing charges for allegedly killing his mother and injuring his father in their home. Kenneth Mortimer, 40, was apprehended by Hamilton County police and charged with murder, attempted murder, and assault for the family stabbing.
According to the Independent UK, the police stated, it started when 74-year-old Barbara Mortimer told her son he couldn't stay at their place overnight. This sparked a heated argument that quickly turned physical.
Following a 911 call, Hamilton County police arrived at a bloody scene. Barbara reportedly asked her husband, Thomas, to call for help. It was at this point, officials say, that Kenneth Mortimer retrieved a knife from the kitchen and approached his parents, who were seated on the couch.
Law enforcement sources report that Kenneth Mortimer then began stabbing both his parents. In a desperate attempt to escape, Barbara Mortimer reportedly ran towards the door but was tackled by her son and forcibly dragged back into the home.
Following the alleged attack, Kenneth Mortimer fled the scene. But the police managed to track him down and arrest him shortly after. Upon questioning, authorities state that Mortimer admitted to stabbing both his parents.
The Hamilton County Justice Center confirmed that Kenneth Mortimer is currently in custody. When he first appeared in court, the judge set a $2 million bond for him.
Barbara didn't survive while Thomas is in a severe condition at the hospital. The doctors haven't provided much information about the extent of Thomas's injuries or his chances of recovery.
