Los Angeles police arrested a group of suspected burglars accused of wearing construction worker vests as disguises to steal from homes in affluent neighborhoods. The LAPD dubbed the group the "Reflector Vest Crew" for their tactic of wearing reflective vests to blend in while casing properties.
The crew allegedly stole from more than 30 homes across West Los Angeles, Studio City, West Hollywood and other upscale areas from March until June. Police say they sought high-end items like designer purses, jewelry, watches and cash.
On June 27, police apprehended three suspects during a break-in attempt in Studio City. Roderick Dennis, 39, Munya Jones, 21, and Michael Mitchell, 21, were placed in the Van Nuys Jail on multiple counts of residential burglary, according to jail reports.
According to Det. Brandon McConnell of LAPD's North Hollywood Division, the group used several vehicles with multiple occupants. He said police observed them try to burglarize two homes before the June 27 incident, but were thwarted when residents answered the door.
Police allege the burglars' method involved sending one person in a reflective vest to knock, aiming to appear unsuspicious. If no one was home, other crew members would then access the property through the backyard.
On July 3, police arrested Ashley Ellison, 33, identified as Dennis' girlfriend. A search of her home allegedly uncovered thousands in cash, stolen guns, jewelry appraisals and other evidence. Police accuse her of storing stolen items and rental cars used in the burglaries.
Court records show Dennis remains in custody on $1.37 million bail. Jones and Mitchell got out on bail, but Ellison was released without having to pay bail.

Police are still investigating, hoping to recover more stolen items and possibly apprehend more of these vest-wearing thieves.
