Two men died after shooting one another during a road rage altercation in Southern California. The San Bernardino Sheriff's Office reported that it began on the 210 Freeway and concluded in a parking lot.
The incident began with a hit-and-run on the highway. Jonathan McConnell, 38, was driving a motorcycle, and Aaron Harris, 37, a car. According to police, McConnell split lanes and crashed with Harris, whose children, ages two and five, accompanied.
After the crash, Harris chased McConnell from the highway to a parking lot. After reaching his destination, McConnell met with several acquaintances. Harris halted his car and started yelling threats at McConnell. McConnell was approaching Harris's car when Harris took out his gun and fired at him. McConnell retaliated and returned the fire, causing both men to suffer deadly wounds.
Mara Rodriguez, spokesperson for the sheriff's department, told Los Angeles ABC station KABC, "It could've been so incredibly simple, but unfortunately we have two people who lost their lives instead." She added, "We all get angry on the roads sometimes, especially these days there's so much traffic out there and so many things going on. But this is a great example of how things can go so wrong so quickly."
Another man who was involved at the scene was shot in the hand during the incident, but it was not fatal. Harris's children remained unharmed in the shootout.
