On her 18th birthday, Shiloh Jolie took a stand and legally dropped her father Brad Pitt's last name from her own, according to the Boston Herald.
The young starlet made it a point to hire her own attorney and personally cover all the legal fees to petition the court, officially changing her name from Shiloh Jolie-Pitt to just Shiloh Jolie, as disclosed by Entertainment Tonight. The name change paperwork was officially filed on May 27th, the day Shiloh turned 18.
According to the outlet, someone with inside knowledge disclosed to People that Shiloh's move to ditch the Pitt name was partially driven by the abuse claims Angelina has repeatedly made against Brad throughout their nasty, never-ending divorce. During the years-long, vitriol-filled divorce proceedings, Angelina has continuously alleged that Brad was physically abusive, pointing to that notorious 2016 private jet altercation as the breaking point that made her file for divorce.
As the fourth child but first to legally discard Pitt's surname, Shiloh's decision carries weight. The former Hollywood couple share five other kids: Maddox (22), Pax (20), Zahara (19), and the 15-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.
In recent months, AOL reported that Zahara introduced herself without using Pitt's name at her college sorority, while Vivienne dropped Pitt from her Playbill credit in a musical Jolie produced, as People reported.
Once praised for their charitable work, the Jolie-Pitt clan shattered amid an explosive, high-profile divorce in 2016. Citing irreconcilable differences, Jolie pursued primary custody while leveling abuse allegations, sparking a legal war with Pitt that rages on.
Pitt has pushed back against the abuse claims as the former couple continues negotiating custody and financial terms, including their French winery business. Their oldest son Maddox also previously gave testimony against Pitt regarding the plane incident.
