A 15-year-old boy is in custody after being accused of fatally stabbing his 62-year-old neighbor, Dana Magnuson. The incident, which authorities believe started in a hot tub behind her residence, unfolded around 7 pm on July 20.
According to the local sheriff's office, responding officers discovered Magnuson's body with numerous stab wounds. Despite medical intervention, she was pronounced dead at the location and on July 29 authorities apprehended the teenage suspect, transferring him to the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center.
Authorities have not released the suspect’s name due to his age. But sources close to ABC13 have revealed the teenager told investigators he wanted to “see what it was like to stab someone.”
He noted that she "loved everyone and would give the shirt off her back or the shoes off her feet to anyone in need." Pitney mentioned that his mother had just come back from a bike ride before starting to garden.
Pitney told Fox26 that his mother had just returned from a bike ride before she began gardening. He also revealed that the accused teenager was a neighbor who would occasionally help Magnuson with household chores. Pitney described the boy as "nothing out of the ordinary, regular-looking kid, looks like he comes from a decent home."
'We only have preliminary reports, and a petition has yet to be filed by the State. We look forward to seeing the evidence they actually have. He's a good kid from a good family, and we are working to figure out what really happened,' the teen's lawyer, Jon Stephenson wrote in a statement.
The case remains under investigation by Harris County authorities and the 15-year-old suspect is in custody at the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center.
