Danny Trejo, known for his role in Machete, finally spoke about the incident he was part of at a Fourth of July parade in Los Angeles. At 80 years old, the actor thinks that race played a role in the argument.

Tensions rose in Sunland-Tujunga during the Fourth of July celebrations. As Trejo drove past, a passerby threw a water balloon at his classic convertible car. The actor told TMZ that he initially stayed in his vehicle until someone yelled that the balloon might contain acid.

"I don't think I would have even gotten out of the car if somebody hadn't yelled 'It's acid.' That's when I panicked," Trejo told the outlet. The veteran actor hopped out, only to get hit by another balloon. He approached the individual who threw it, and things turned physical as the man grabbed his shirt.

Trejo felt bad about how he reacted, saying he was "so sad" about the whole thing. "Honestly, I am so sad. I’m so sad that I behaved the way I behaved. I'm so sad that grown men gotta throw water balloons to enjoy a day."

Trejo believes the water balloon throwers might've had racist motives and his car was targeted, saying, "I’m just sad that there’s still people from the ‘50s and ‘60s that still feel the same way. No one else was targeted."

A witness, Stanley Herrarte, supported Trejo's account telling ABC 7 Los Angeles, "This parade is like a thing where you throw water balloons back and forth at each other. The reason why Danny was so infuriated was because usually people don't throw water balloons at fancy cars when they come by."

Despite the altercation, Trejo assured fans that he was unharmed. "I'm alright. They couldn't hurt me," he said with a smile. "I would be embarrassed if I attacked an 80-year-old man and he's still talking and laughing."

Despite the drama, Trejo seemed to bounce back quickly after the parade fiasco. He posted a fun video of himself grooving to some Weird Al in a garage full of sweet rides.

The LAPD's keeping mum about the whole thing so far. No word yet on whether anyone's gonna face charges over the scuffle.

Homicides decline over 25%, according to mayor's office

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announced Tuesday a decline of more than one-fourth in the number of homicides and people shot since she took office two years ago. Statistics released by the L.A. Police Department show murders are down 28.1% and 26.2% fewer people have been shot. Gang-related homicides were a particularly bright spot, down by 50% since 2022. City officials attributed the decline in part to programs like Summer Night Lights and Fall Friday Nights, which aim to create supervised spaces for young people at times when gang activities have traditionally been high. Over 316,000 people received food, programming,

Franklin Fire expands to 2,700 acres amid ongoing response efforts

The Franklin Fire in Malibu Canyon grew to more than 2,700 acres as of Tuesday near Pepperdine University.  The fire – driven by Santa Ana winds – started Monday and was first reported at 11 p.m. It threatens about 2,000 structures, forcing mandatory evacuations orders to be handed out. However, only a “minimal” number of homes have been destroyed, and no injuries have been reported.  There’s a high volume of dry brush, which contributed to the rapidly growing fire. The fire began in the midst of a “particularly dangerous situation red flag warning” issued by the National Weather Service. Los Angeles
