A woman in Utah told police she killed her parents and wouldn't hesitate to do it again. Mia Bailey, 28, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with 11 felonies, including the murder of her parents, Joseph and Gail Bailey, and the attempted murder of her brother.
Washington City Police say Bailey forced her way into her parents' home on Tuesday and killed them. She then went downstairs and allegedly shot through her brother’s bedroom door, where he and his wife had taken shelter. Local news outlet KUTV, citing court documents, mentioned that Bailey did not care if she killed her brother.
According to the police report, Bailey forced her way into the family home on Tuesday evening and opened fire on her unsuspecting parents, striking each multiple times. Her father was shot twice in the head, while her mother was shot four times, including once after Bailey went back to "make sure she was dead," according KSL.com.
After allegedly killing her parents, Bailey then went downstairs and shot through her brother's bedroom door, saying she didn't care if the shot killed him, local KUTV reported, citing court documents. Her brother and his wife called 911 after Bailey left the house.
As per the affidavit, Bailey confessed to the officers that "she had no remorse for her actions and that she would not change what she had done." Mia stated, "I would do it again. I hate them.'"
Prosecutors charged Bailey with six counts of felony for firearm discharge, two counts of aggravated murder for her parents' slayings, one count of attempted aggravated murder against her brother, aggravated burglary, and an additional firearm violation.
"Mia claimed she went to the residence with the intent to kill her parents," the police affidavit said, providing a possible motive for the double homicide.
Officials had been searching for Bailey's yellow Kia Soul after it was seen leaving her parents' house following the killings. When officers initially located her, Bailey allegedly pulled a gun and held it to her head before fleeing. She turned herself in the next morning.
The case sent shockwaves through the local community of Washington City. "Everyone is safe. No one else was injured," St. George police spokesperson Tiffany Mitchell stated, confirming the murder was an isolated incident.
Authorities have not provided any further information on what may have motivated the brutal slayings. The investigation remains ongoing.
