A Tampa teen allegedly killed his parents and injured a police officer in a shooting on June 15. Police rushed to a house after getting a 911 call.
A woman named Rebecca Themelis called in, saying her husband, Christos, had been shot. As the call continued, dispatchers reportedly heard the shooting in the background.
According to police, they found the shooter - the couple's 19-year-old son - outside with his mom. The teen then allegedly shot his mom and started shooting at the police.
One of the officers, Shane McGough, was shot in the leg. The other officers shot back, then the teen ran inside and locked himself in. This initiated a tense Hillsborough County standoff.
When the police finally got in, they found the teen dead. “The monster we encountered this evening is responsible for not only injuring our deputy but also killing his own mother and father," Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a press release.
McGough, the officer who got shot, had surgery the next day and is expected to recover. The sheriff said they'd been called to that house many times before. These calls were related to mental health services and reports of violence against the suspect's parents.
The sheriff also mentioned there was already a court order against the teen. Detectives are trying to determine exactly what transpired. The sheriff's office informed the public that they will assist with state authorities to solve the case.
