A deadly wreck in Malibu killed one person and injured two others, with police saying a 32-year-old Instagram star was driving. The crash involved Summer Wheaton, a renowned "wellness guru" and social media influencer with numerous online followers, who was allegedly driving a 2019 Mercedes that collided with a Cadillac SUV on the Pacific Coast Highway.
Police say Wheaton's car veered over the center line and slammed into the Cadillac which was going the opposite way. The Cadillac's driver died on the scene. Wheaton and a passenger from the Cadillac were rushed to the hospital.
Wheaton, who has over 100k Instagram followers, locked down her social media after being named in the fatal Malibu car crash. Her website, which used to promote her businesses and talks, has also disappeared from the internet.
Before this incident, Wheaton marketed herself as a prominent "founder, speaker and wellness advocate," promoting clean eating and living. She claimed on her site to be the CEO of two new companies, one selling upscale vending machines with healthy food.
According to Yahoo News, the crash happened around 10:20 at night on the highway near the 2200 block. A local paper reports it occurred by Nobu, where they were hosting a party without proper permits.
The Sheriff's Office says they're still investigating what happened and Wheaton is keeping quiet and won't comment on the crash.
