Texas twins Shamaiya and Troyshaye Hall are in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons - accused of killing their own children in separate incidents. According to reports, the 26-year-old sisters have a dark past, with both now facing charges of child murders, leaving their family and neighbors reeling.
Police arrested Shamaiya Hall on March 3rd in Italy, Texas, after she allegedly stabbed her five children during a CPS home check. A CPS worker called 911 after deciding the children needed to be removed. What the police found when they arrived was gut-wrenching. Three children - including 5-year-old twins and their 6-year-old brother - were dead. A baby girl and a 4-year-old boy barely survived.
DeAundre Dorsey, father of Shamaiya's oldest child, Legend Chapelle, expressed frustration about how the state handled custody of his child. Dorsey told NBC 5 DFW, We wanted to take care of the oldest, but the state didn't want to split up the children. It's as if they robbed us of our chance to get him. He added that the whole town was shaken up, and the family was torn apart by what happened. He told local news, "It's been stressful for me, really hard for me and my family, and I have to stay strong for my mother; she's really upset about the whole situation."
This isn't the first time one of the Hall twins has been in trouble for harming their child. In June 2021, Troyshaye was charged with capital murder for killing her 7-year-old and attacking a teenager. The court documents say Troyshaye went on a rampage, stabbing her little girl over 30 times in their Dallas home. She was sent to a psychiatric ward when she was deemed too mentally unfit for a standing trial.
Texas Child Services released a statement: "We are shocked by this incomprehensible tragedy and are already working with law enforcement to investigate how this happened and why."
The twins' violent streak dates back to 2017, when they had an altercation with Troyshaye's ex. Court records indicate that the sisters confronted him at an apartment, with Shamaiya allegedly using pepper spray and Troyshaye brandishing a knife.
Citizens are beginning to question if Texas is doing enough to protect children from their own parents. Legend's step-grandfather, Robert Reese, told the news - they wouldn't let us have him when he was breathing, but now they want to hand over his body? That isn't right.
Shamaiya is currently in custody in a jail cell in Ellis County, and her bail is set at $6 million. The authorities are currently looking into the cause of the tragedy and working to avoid a recurrence.
