With Thanksgiving looming next week, many in Los Angeles may look for ways to save on the holiday’s large meal.

As has become tradition, many food banks and other organizations across the country are offering free turkeys, vegetables, and other Thanksgiving staples this year.

Feeding America, a nonprofit, has a locator tool on their website to help people find food banks near them.

The following locations will offer groceries free of charge this weekend:

Saturday, Nov. 23:

  • Orange County supervisor Doug Chaffee will be at Northgate Highschool giving out $25 vouchers for use at Northgate Market from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Those in attendance will also receive boxes of vegetables. The school is located at 401 S. Palm St., La Habra, CA. Register in advance here. More details are available on Instagram.
  • Victory Outreach Church of West Govina will give out turkeys and other classic Thanksgiving foods in a drive-through event in La Puente. Distribution will start at 8 a.m., and end when supplies are exhausted.
  • Victor Valley Rescue Mission will host the Great Thanksgiving Turkey Basket Drive-Thru Giveaway at the San Bernardino County Fairgrounds from 12-2 p.m. Proof of income and residency in the High Desert is required, as is registration.
  • The Pacific Community Center in Upland will give out hundreds of turkeys starting at 1 p.m. Registration is optional, but does not guarantee a turkey. The event will also include complementary lunches.
  • The Weingart East L.A. YMCA will provide Thanksgiving totes and turkeys as part of its annual Fiesta para la Communidad. Distribution will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Mariachi Plaza at 1831 E 1st St., Los Angeles, CA.

Sunday, Nov. 24:

  • TheSix, along with a number of community partners, will provide free provisions from over 40 grocery shops. The event will last from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at 1950 Lemon Avenue Long Beach, CA. Registration is encouraged.
