A woman in Iowa was arrested for allegedly filing a false report to avoid her first date. On June 16, 18-year-old Sumaya Thomas from North Liberty got herself into trouble by calling the police with a fake tale about her "ex."
Thomas had initially scheduled a romantic evening with a man she matched with on a dating app. But when the guy showed up, she panicked and called 911.
The police report says Thomas claimed her "ex" was abusive and threatening to hurt her. She even said she was pregnant with his child and that he was going to "hit, punch, kick and stab her."
As soon as they arrived, the affidavit said, "the conversation showed he was being honest, and he really did just meet this female."
Thomas told officers they had known each other for two years and communicated via Snapchat. However, further investigation revealed that she had deleted messages from her phone between herself and her date.
Thomas allegedly admitted to fabricating the report. She confessed that she "got cold feet on meeting him" and "didn't think officers would help so she made up this call and the events that she described."
The man was detained for over an hour while police investigated the false claims.
According to the Daily Mail, Thomas was arrested and charged with two counts of false report of indictable offense to public entity and one count of false report on a 911 call.
